Counselling for Young Women (16 –25) Impacted by Family Violence & ADHD

Support that understands your experiences, your mind, and your nervous system

At Women Assist, we recognise that young women living with ADHD who have experienced family or domestic violence often face unique and complex challenges.

  • You may have been misunderstood, dismissed, or blamed for how you react, feel, or cope.
  • You may question yourself, your memory, your emotions, or your decisions.

But your responses make sense.

This is a space where both your trauma and your neurodiversity are understood, without judgment.

Who This Is For

Young women aged 16 – 25 years

This service supports young people aged 16 to 25 who:

  • Have ADHD (diagnosed or self-identified)
  • Have experienced or witnessed family or domestic violence
  • Feel overwhelmed, misunderstood, or emotionally exhausted
  • Are navigating independence, relationships, study, or work

You don’t have to figure this out on your own.

When ADHD & Trauma Overlap

ADHD and trauma can interact in ways that feel intense, confusing, and often invisible to others.

You might experience:

  • Strong emotional reactions or feeling overwhelmed quickly
  • Shutdown, avoidance, or difficulty following through
  • Rejection sensitivity (RSD), especially in unsafe environments
  • Struggles with memory, focus, or organisation
  • Self-doubt from being told you’re “too much” or “not enough”
  • Difficulty trusting your instincts or decisions
  • Burnout from constantly trying to cope or “keep up”

These are not personal failings, they are adaptive responses.

A Pathway Forward: EmpowerHer ADHD Program

For young women aged 16 – 25 who are ready for more structured support, we offer the EmpowerHer ADHD Program.

This 12-week program has been thoughtfully designed to support women with ADHD to move beyond survival and towards self-understanding, confidence, and empowerment, especially for those impacted by trauma or family violence.

The program includes:

  • A deeper understanding of ADHD and how it shows up in your life
  • Support to make sense of your emotional world and trauma responses
  • Practical tools for regulation, focus, and daily functioning
  • Guidance in building identity, self-worth, and confidence
  • A structured yet compassionate space for growth and healing

This can be a powerful next step after individual counselling, or something you move into when you feel ready.

What Makes This Different

At Women Assist, we understand the full picture:

  • The impact of family violence on identity and decision-making
  • The way ADHD can affect memory, focus, and emotional regulation.
  • The pressure of trying to “hold it together” while struggling internally.
  • How often young people feel misunderstood in traditional services.

This is support that meets you where you are, and helps you move forward.

What to Expect

  • Private and confidential sessions
  • 60-minute appointments
  • Online (and in-person if available)

We will work with you to explore whether individual counselling, the EmpowerHer program, or a combination of both is the right fit.
