Trauma Counselling

Trauma Counselling for Women

Healing at your pace, in a space that feels safe

At Women Assist, we recognise that trauma can shape how you feel, think, relate, and move through the world. Whether your experiences are recent or from many years ago, their impact can remain in your body, your relationships, and your sense of self.

Our trauma counselling offers a safe, supportive space where your story is met with care, respect, and deep understanding.

You are not too much.
You are not broken.
Your responses make sense.

Understanding Trauma

Trauma is not just what happened to you; it’s how your mind and body have had to adapt to survive.

You may be experiencing:

  • Hypervigilance or feeling constantly “on edge”
  • Emotional overwhelm or shutdown
  • Difficulty trusting others or feeling safe
  • Intrusive memories or flashbacks
  • Shame, self-blame, or low self-worth
  • Disconnection from your body or identity

These are not signs of weakness. They are survival responses.

Our Approach to Trauma Counselling

At Women Assist, we provide trauma-informed counselling that prioritises safety, choice, and empowerment.

Our work together may include:

  • Gently building a sense of safety and stabilisation
  • Understanding your nervous system and trauma responses
  • Processing experiences at a pace that feels right for you
  • Reconnecting with your body in safe and supported ways
  • Strengthening boundaries, identity, and self-trust
  • Developing practical tools to manage triggers and overwhelm

We never rush the process. Healing happens in relationships, in safety, and over time.

Specialised Support

We have particular expertise in supporting women who have experienced:

  • Family and domestic violence
  • Coercive control and emotional abuse
  • Complex trauma (C-PTSD)
  • Childhood trauma
  • Systemic and intergenerational trauma

We also work in culturally sensitive and trauma-aware ways, including supporting Aboriginal women and women navigating multiple layers of disadvantage.
