Neuro-affirming Counselling

Supporting you in a way that honours who you are

At Women Assist, we provide neuro-affirming counselling that recognises neurodiversity as a natural and valid part of the human experience, rather than something to be fixed or changed.

We understand that many women, carers, and frontline workers have spent years feeling misunderstood, overwhelmed, or pressured to mask their true selves. Our approach creates a space where you can feel safe, respected, and deeply understood.

What is neuro-affirming counselling?

Neuro-affirming counselling is grounded in the understanding that:

  • Neurodivergence (including ADHD, autism, and other neurotypes) is a difference, not a deficit
  • Distress often comes from systems, environments, and expectations, not from who you are
  • Healing begins with acceptance, not correction

We work with your unique way of thinking, feeling, and processing the world — supporting you to build insight, self-trust, and sustainable ways of living that actually fit you.

Our approach

Our counselling is:

Trauma-informed and compassionate

We recognise the impact of masking, burnout, invalidation, and systemic barriers, especially for women who have been overlooked or misdiagnosed.

Collaborative and respectful

You are the expert in your own experience. We work with you, not on you.

Strengths-based

We focus on your capabilities, insight, and resilience — not just your challenges.

Flexible and individualised

Sessions are adapted to your communication style, sensory needs, pace, and preferences.

We can support you with:

  • ADHD overwhelm and executive functioning challenges
  • Autistic burnout and chronic exhaustion
  • Masking and identity exploration
  • Emotional regulation and nervous system support
  • Trauma and complex life experiences
  • Boundaries, relationships, and self-advocacy
  • Workplace stress and caring roles
  • Navigating late diagnosis or self-identification

A space for women who care for others

Many of the women we support are:

  • Carers
  • Counsellors, therapists, and support workers
  • Women in family violence and community services
  • Women navigating complex trauma alongside neurodivergence

You may be highly capable and deeply caring, yet struggling behind the scenes.

Our work supports you to sustain yourself while continuing to support others, without losing who you are in the process.

What you can expect

In our sessions, you can expect:

  • A calm, non-judgemental environment
  • No pressure to “mask” or perform
  • Validation of your lived experience
  • Gentle exploration at your pace
  • Practical strategies that align with your brain and body
  • Space to be fully yourself

Our intention

We are here to support you to:

  • Understand yourself more deeply
  • Reduce shame and self-criticism
  • Build self-trust and self-compassion
  • Create a life that works with your neurotype, not against it
